scientists, public officials and press at the U.S. Commerce Department's Broadband Technology Expo March 6, 2002
in Washington, D.C. on the relationship of broadband technology to economic and scientific development in the

David Edelstein (second from left) and Hayes MacArthur (left) of 4Medica, Inc. demonstrate to U.S. Secretary of
Commerce Don Evans and Administrator of the Small Business Administration Hector Baretto (right) how 4Medica
technology transforms standard web browsers into secure programs for physicians and patients to view diagnostic
test results and prescription information.
Secretary Evans noted that Information Technology companies such as 4Medica are representative of the sector of
the economy that "accounts for one quarter of economic growth and two-thirds of productivity growth," adding
that "over the next 10 years, broadband is expected to add half a trillion dollars - $50 billion a year - to the
economy, while transforming people's lives."
4Medica promotes the adoption of broadband technology in physicians' offices and hospitals by providing secure
access to clinical lab test ordering and results and other electronic patient data using standard web-browsers
and ASP (Application Service Provider) technology.
4Medica Executive Vice-President David Edelstein and Director of Marketing Hayes MacArthur demonstrated to
Secretary Evans and Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration Hector Baretto how 4Medica technology
connects physicians, patients, hospitals and clinical laboratories to enable authorized users secure and
immediate access to results of laboratory tests and other diagnostic procedures. Physicians can get full access
to patients' electronic medical records and use context-sensitive tools to generate messages to patients
containing test results, interpretations, graphic-rich educational content and other patient-specific
information. Physicians' office or hospital staff can order lab tests and see specimen requirements and
reimbursement information, and hospitals and clinical labs can provide physicians and patients with immediate
test results and test order verifications.
4Medica is the nation's leading independent provider of clinical lab data over the Internet, linking over 100
clinical and hospital lab chains with over 10,000 healthcare facilities nationwide
4Medica is also working with its partners in the eHealth Initiative to promote national communication and
integration standards for healthcare information, to improve healthcare outcomes and efficiency, reduce costs
and provide public health agencies better tools for early identification of infectious disease outbreaks and
bioterrorism.
